Eating My Way Through D.C.

11.20.16Travel, Washington D.C.0

I’ve had the best time getting the chance to live like a D.C. local this weekend with Cambria hotels & suites!

If you haven’t already been following along on my journey, I’ve traded places with local D.C. blogger, Alicia Tenise, who put together a fun itinerary for my weekend stay at the Cambria hotel & suites Washington D.C.

Like most of my weekends, this one revolved around food and man, D.C. did not disappoint! I had so much fun trying out a few of Alicia’s favorite restaurants in the city.

First on our list was Barcelona Wine Bar on 14th Street, which was only a short 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. The extensive menu offers a variety of tapas dishes, cheeses, plate’s paella and more. We decided to stick to the tapas, choosing the croquettes (my favorite by far), brussels sprouts, a meat plate and patatas bravas. Overall, the atmosphere was great for an intimate Friday date/girls night and the food was some of the best that I’ve had in a while! Quick tip: I recommend making a reservation, as it’s quite a busy spot on the weekends! There are also some great bars close by if you’re looking for a spot to enjoy some wine and let your food digest.

Another spot on Alicia’s list that we checked out was Farmers Fishers Bakers in Georgetown. It was a15-minute ride away from the hotel, but man was it worth it! Located right on the waterfront, the restaurant has a great view and is super cozy and welcoming. As for dinner, we started with the Tuna Tartare, which was phenomenal! Since I’m a huge seafood fan, I opted for the Spicy Ahi Tuna Poke Salad for my entrée and it ended up being a great choice. The tuna was extremely fresh and the dressing was very unique and flavorful.

Lastly, we knew Union Market was a must-see spot on our list so we took a short 10-minute ride there this morning. The actual space reminded me a lot of Chelsea Market in NYC. It had a selection of shops with handmade local merchandise and a variety of local food vendors. Though we had eaten earlier in the day, we knew we just had to try something. Since Zach can NEVER turn down an empanada (can ya blame him?), we picked up a few from the D.C. Empanadas stand. If you find yourself here, I highly recommend!
